Girls – Lust for Life

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

The new music video for Girls’ song Lust for Life “Album” due Sept. 22nd directed by Aaron Brown features a sun-kissed montage of San Francisco life. The song is located somewhere between a transgender stomp anthem, a parody of gender roles in contemporary music, and a good old fashion pop song. Usually, YouTube comments are the cream corn of the internet but this one seemed genuine: “I seriously hope you guys/girls make it big because it would be so good for the whole global trans people community. Please count on my support.” Oh, I wish I had a boyfriend…

Neutral Milk Hotel – The King of Carrot Flowers P.1

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Beautiful song, beautiful lyrics, beautiful noise. Part of my best-of-the-90s-binge post series. This isn’t the official music video, and I’m not sure if there even is one, but this is the best I could find.

Dead Mellotron – 1993 video

Friday, August 7th, 2009

Dead Mellotron has posted a new video for their song “1993.” Dead Mellotron is a little band from Monroe, Louisiana who are on their way to big places. Located somewhere between shoegaze pop and ambient, Dead Mello was once a one-man band, but from the looks of their new video, Frazier Morgan Jarrod has recruited a couple of talented creeps to jam with him.

The Breeders – Cannonball and Divine Hammer

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Apparently the Breeders and the Pixies are still around today? I had no idea. In any case, Kim Deal is the mastermind behind the Breeders and bassist for alt rock god-group the Pixies. Two of the greatest alt rock bands of all time… dare I say THE greatest alt rock bands of all time?

The Breeders are best known for their track “Cannonball.” I’d like to say that Cannonball is some shitty demo of Kim’s that MTV shotgunned into the ears of 90′s youth and that her “good” stuff is hidden on older albums… but the truth is that Cannonball is an amazing, influential noise-bite that reeks of the 90′s (and my childhood). I hear noise pop, punk, surf rock, grunge… the Breeders fizzle with everything cool.

The official music video for Crystal Stilts’ Departure

crystalstiltsA few days I ago I suggested people to keep an eye on the Woodsist label, and Crystal Stilts is no exception to that. Departure is my favorite song of theirs, but their other music is worth a listen too. Also, check out their album art/logo to the right. Great design.

Dan Deacon – Ohio

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

Dan Deacon takes over NBC morning with a live performance of “Ohio.” So bad ass, I don’t even know where to begin. He rocks that studio like a grandma stripper performing at a child’s birthday party. Bad ass.
